Recruitment of a Professor
Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Kyushu University
1. Outline
Kyushu University is seeking an experienced individual with expertise in teaching and research for appointment as one tenured Professor in the International Development Section, Institute of Tropical Agriculture.
Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Kyushu University is one of the joint-use facilities of the university, and involves in conducting research, education and international cooperation on tropical agriculture with three sections, Tropical Crops and Environment Section, Land-Water Resources and Environment Conservation Section and International Development Section. The International Development Section where the recruitment of a professor is offered is dealing with research on international development of forest and local village, and conservation of forest environment in tropical regions. The professor of the Section participates in the education of master’s and doctoral course programs as Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Global Society, and lectures the undergraduate students in School of Agriculture and School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation.
The duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:
1. Outstanding insight and excellent knowledge for research and education in the areas 1) to 3) below,
1) Relationship between forest resources and local people in tropics,
2) Global issues such as conservation of ecosystem, climate change, and deforestation in tropics,
3) Rural development paying attention with environment in tropics,
2. Actual results of international research activities,
3. Intention to work on international cooperation with enthusiasm,
4. Intention to engage in graduate school education in domestic and foreign universities,
5. English ability to have discussions for international joint research centered on Asia,
6. Ph. D degree holder

7. Educational Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following subjects and supervise research activities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in Japanese, with some of the teaching and supervision done in English.

8. Interview:
Short-listed candidates may be invited for an interview and mock lesson held at Ito Campus or via a remote conference system. We do not support any expenses incurred, such as for travel or accommodation, to participate in the interview.
9. Conditions of Employment
(1) Employment Duration
Full-time, with a mandatory retirement age of 65.
(2) Probationary period
A three-month probationary period.
(3) Working hours, Break time, Overtime
Based on Discretionary Labor System for professional work.
(4) Days off
Every Saturday and Sunday, national holidays, and New Year’s holidays from December 29-January 3 in addition to an annual leave entitlement.
(5) Social Insurance
Employee shall enroll in:
Employment insurance, Compensation Insurance, Health Insurance, Employees’ pension insurance.
